RIP Sam the Koala

Here's a picture of her in the rescue centre with her boyfriend Bob in happier times...

Sad news today that Sam the koala has been put down due to the complications of urogenital chlamydiosis, a life-threatening disease that affects 50 per cent of the koala population. She was a symbol of hope and courage for many and many people around the world will be grieving.

We had allot of bush fire koalas here a couple of years ago, they are very hard animals to keep alive. They have problems with their livers and kidneys. It is sad that sam has passed on, I am sure he had the very best of care and the people around him tried everything they could. RIP Sam and love to all who are involved with the care of many of the animals affected by any bush fire's.

Habitat Destruction & Fragmentation is the single biggest threat to our koala’s survival. Clearing of habitat destroys the koala’s shelter and food supply. This ultimately displaces the koala, creates stress for it and forces the koala to move into unfamiliar areas which may well be another koala's territory.
