Things I like today

I've been drooling over these Jane Foster dolls for ages...the catch is they come in a kit and you have to make them yourself! Very cool.

Gotta make me some of Joel's paper owls! Fab tutorial!

Such a stunning example of the power of black and white photography.

The only thing as good as the V&A is the V&A shop. This is 'Pause and Wonder' by Aardvark for the V&A Cherry on the Cake: Paper collection.

When an Idea becomes a reality

Well the exhibition is up and ready for viewing! The launch was held last night and very well attended with lots of lovely people and even some sales! I'll write something detailed with pictures and such over the next couple of days. I've got a bad cold alas (of all the times for it!) and I'm quite weary as I had a tv interview at the channel 31 studio last night after the exhibition and then a phone interview this morning with ABC radio at 6am. Tiring! I managed to go back to sleep, but slept badly in general due to being ill. I made us a full english breakfast (well a vegan version) complete with toast, mushrooms, baked beans, hashbrowns, spinach from our garden and soy sausages. Very yummy and somewhat restorative.

At the moment I'm sitting outside in my backyard watching people walk in and outside my house to look at the work, certainly a strange experience! Somewhere between a open house inspection and a garage sale I think. But definitely fun.

Edit-two minutes after I posted this, one of Louise Francis' burlesque embroideries just sold. Yay!

I'm quite pleased that the Exhibition has come to fruition. Certainly a mammoth effort which I could have done without the help of my husband and some great friends and of course, our lovely exhibitors. So lucky to know so many wonderful people.

I'm selling some Frankie magazines and books over on Ebay. Have a look here won't you? Like most creative people in the middle of putting on an exhibition, I'm rather broke!

Tutorial: Tea Towel Curtains

I have been collecting cute tea towels for a while but I often find them too cute to cut up. I thought about making a tea towel quilt but I'm a bit too time poor for such an enterprise. So, I decided to make curtains!
What you need:
  • A pile of teatowels
  • An Iron
  • Sewing Machine (you could sew by hand if you are really keen)
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Tape Measure
  • Curtain Rod
  • Hooks to hang the rod

Instructions.
  1. Measure your window to determine how many tea towels you will need to make two curtains. It's best to make them a bit wider than the window to ensure the sides of the glass are covered properly.
  2. Lay out tea towels on the floor to work out the pattern and colour combination you like most.
  3. Have a look at your tea towels. Are they all the same length and width? If not you might need to trim them on the inside bits before sewing them together. This will mean that you won't have to hem the bottom on outside sides of the curtains which should have a teatowel hem or bias anyway.
  4. Sew teatowels together to make two curtains.
  5. Double check the height of your window and hem the top by folding the top over and stitching, leaving at least a 5cm tube so you can slip the curtain rod through it.
  6. Snip of any stray threads
  7. Slip the curtains through the rod and hang! (If you only have a small window and don' t want to go to the expense of buying a rod, you might find a sturdy bamboo stake does the trick, like I did.
  8. You're done!

The curtains are light enough to still let in a little light when closed, and you can keep them open by tying them back. If it's a main room, it would be a good idea to line the curtains with some thermal fabric to ensure they are insulated against the heat and cold.

I really like this artwork by Andrew Archer and the use of black as a canvas rather than the typical white...

Things I like today

I love these little ceramic planters! Just waiting for some succulents.

I love bulb flowers! Spring is coming!

Loving these big bunnies! I'd love one for my garden! These giant rabbits are the creation of the Cracking Art Group. The installation seen here in Portofino, Italy is made by recycling old plastic water bottles collected from landfills.

Such a lovely little embroidery

Things I like today

People often lament the lack of crafty things for men. I think this Boo Davis quilt bucks the trend nicely.
Skinny La Minx can do no wrong! I think I'd frame this tea towel, it would look wonderful hung in a kitchen.

How cute! Of course, my love of bunnies is well known :)

I'm actually allergic to beer so I can't drink it at all, but I'd love to get a poster like this for my home brewing husband!
