Recently I was asked to comment on a rather sexist, stereotypical article written about women and craft. You can see my thoughts and the interview here

Hi Cate
As one of the people interviewed for Kylie Hansen's story, I read the follow up story and your comments with interest.
I have to say I am totally in agreement with your comments regarding women choosing to live sustainably and run successful businesses as opposed to a return to 1950s style domesticity.
I think one point that could have been explored a little more in the article was the fact that the resurgence of craft and domestic skills, for want of a better term, is in most cases driven by choice and anti-consumerism, rather than necessity.
Having said that, I do think the Herald Sun articles took a tongue in cheek tone when referring to "the housewife being back", rather than seriously suggesting that a return to 1950s roles is happening.
Thanks for raising some very interesting points.
oh I agree with you, I've done a bit of research on the consumerism issues around crafting and it's certainly fraught with ethical dilemmas...
